Does a Highly Rated Product Fit You? A Review Evidence Worksheet

Star ratings summarise other people's satisfaction, not your space, task or constraints. Compare each review claim with your own essential requirement and leave unsupported points as questions. This worksheet neither detects fake reviews nor assigns a product-quality score.

A high rating cannot change dimensions
  1. Invented review: fits a small desk
  2. Your under-desk clearance:64 cm
  3. Candidate armrest minimum:66 cm
  4. Same measurement conditions:66>64 → does not fit

This comparison does not decide whether a review is fake.

Invented dimensions and review, assuming matching measurement directions and floor conditions. No real product test.

Record your requirements

Do not invent facts to fill blanks. This worksheet is not an authenticity test or a product recommendation score.

This tool does not transmit your entries or store them on a server. The CSV is created in your browser. All sample numbers are hypothetical; use one currency and consistent units.

Read a review as a claim with conditions

Write one requirement first. ‘The armrests must fit under my desk’ is more actionable than ‘a good chair’. Record the exact model, option, review date and use environment. A shared product listing may contain reviews for different sizes or generations.

Keep the claim separate from the evidence. ‘Takes up little space’ is someone's assessment. To test fit, you need the precise product dimensions, your measured space and matching measurement directions. A photo can explain context but cannot establish accurate dimensions or long-term durability.

A review's usefulness and the writer's honesty are different questions. A review irrelevant to your situation need not be false. Purchase badges, low ratings or natural writing also do not prove authenticity. Find independent evidence; if an essential question remains unanswered, waiting is a valid decision.

Worked example: a chair that ‘fits a small desk’

Imagine a review saying a chair fits a small desk. If your clear under-desk height is 64 cm and the candidate armrest's minimum height is 66 cm, it does not fit beneath it, assuming matching measurement conditions. A good rating cannot remove the dimensional mismatch.

These are invented numbers, not actual specifications or a real customer's review. Record the requirement ‘armrest below 64 cm’, evidence ‘my measurement and the exact option's dimension sheet’, and remaining question ‘adjustment range and measurement position’. If the sheet is unavailable, write ‘not verified’ instead of inventing a value.

What to record from reviews

  1. Set your essential requirement before reading persuasive wording.
  2. Record the exact model, option, date and environment.
  3. Check for product provision or incentive disclosures; absence of a label does not prove independence.
  4. Relate benefits and repeated complaints to your conditions, then check another source.
  5. Ask the seller a specific remaining question or defer the purchase.

No authenticity or trustworthiness score

Do not rank products by how many worksheet cells are filled. Plenty of evidence can still show that a product fails your requirement. Do not republish others' review images without permission or accuse a seller of fraud without evidence. Avoid personal identifiers in your notes.

Common questions

Do few reviews mean poor quality?

No. It may reflect a new product or limited distribution, or simply insufficient information.

Should I read only low ratings?

Check the option, environment and whether the complaint concerns delivery or the product itself.
